This Week's Découvertes: Throwback Books, Outdoor Dining and Giving Back

We missed last week with the launch of our first drop but we're back at it this week!  Here are some of the things that have inspired us, simplified our lives or just made us smile this past week!

  1. We recently took out Where is Waldo from the library and have really been enjoying going through it with Z!  It’s been so fun to go enjoy these books we read as kids with him.  We've also been enjoying these that Ben use to read as a kid and this serie that I use to love and that my mom kept.

  2. We’ve been trying to reduce our plastic and paper usage at home by using cloth napkins instead of paper napkins and avoiding disposable straws.  However with kids birthday parties, picnics and beach trips on the horizon, we’ve been on the search for disposable plates and cups that aren’t as harmful to the environment.   We recently discovered this gorgeous line of disposable tableware.   It’s not only beautiful but it’s also recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable

  3. On a heavier note, recent stories about the surge in the number of children being separated with their parents at the US border have been heartbreaking.  There are many organizations working hard to protect immigrant children and offer support to families being separated at the US Border.  Below are a few options:

  • Together Rising: This organization is sponsoring an initiative to provide legal assistance for the 60 children who are currently detained and separated from their parents in Arizona. It also is working to reunite these children with their families and to maintain communication between parents and children in the meantime.

  • The Florence Project: This organization provides free legal and social services to detained immigrants in Arizona.

  • The Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights. This organization works for the rights of children in immigration proceedings.

  • Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). This organization works to ensure that no child appears in immigration court alone without representation.

Have a great weekend!
xx Veronique
